The Sirri Group announces development plans for Nanaimo’s very own Innovation and Technology Park

The Divers Lake Innovation and Technology Park will be a 70,000 square foot facility and be home to like-minded, innovative companies. Nanaimo-based Inuktun Services Limited, is the first major firm to join the IT Park.

NANAIMO: The Sirri Group in collaboration with Inuktun Services Limited and the Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation today announced plans to develop a massive Innovation and Technology Park in the heart of Nanaimo – a first of its kind development for the Mid-Island region.
The Divers Lake Innovation and Technology Park will open in 2014 and is a major leap forward in the development of Nanaimo’s knowledge-based economy. It has already generated considerable interest from the IT and research and development sectors.
“We are excited to be announcing this project – it is an important project and is the much needed next step for the growing IT industry in Nanaimo and surrounding area,” said Hesham Sirri, President of the Sirri Group.
“Bringing cutting edge and like minded companies together under one roof encourages the kind of positive collaboration that promotes further growth and innovation,” he added.
Construction for the facility will begin in early 2014 with first occupants moving in later in the year. Inuktun Services Limited – experts in robotic transport and one of Nanaimo’s most innovative international exports – will be the first major client to move into the facility.
The 70,000 square foot Divers Lake IT Park will incorporate state-of-the-art technology in its construction, executives said.
Environmentally progressive solutions such as solar panels and geothermal technology for heating and cooling systems, as well as a truly green roof will be part of the construction parameters for the IT Park, Sirri added.
“The Divers Lake IT Park, is the place to be for companies like us,” said Colin Doebell, CEO of Inuktun Services Limited.
“As a growing and very successful Nanaimo-based company, we need to be in a state-of-the-art facility that will help us continue to grow and supply our international client base. Divers Lake IT Park is an inspirational setting and is the perfect fit for us,” Doebell said.
The Divers Lake Innovation and Technology Park is another major investment in Nanaimo from the Sirri Group and represents a ringing endorsement for the investment climate in Nanaimo, economic development experts said.
“The NEDC is thrilled to see this kind of investment in the heart of Nanaimo” said Sasha Angus, CEO of the Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation.
“Innovation, collaboration and partnerships are the keystone to the development of the knowledge based economy in Nanaimo and we are proud to be supporting the Divers Lake IT Park and the growth of the IT sector,” he added.
